This scale produces wonderful sounds that must be explored.

Now that the Melodic Minor Scale Modes are complete do the following:

1. Learn in all keys ( Db, D, Eb, E, F, F#, G, Ab, A, Bb, B,)

2. Record all the chord progressions and play the modal scale with the modal chords.

3. Start to move to other keys. Example take C Dorian #7 and move to D Dorian #7. 
The chords would be the same chord types just in the new key. See here below:

D, E, F, G, A, B, C#, D is the D Melodic Minor scale - also called the D Dorian #7 Mode.

The Family of Chords has the same chord types as the C Melodic Minor Family of Chords.
No matter what key you change to the chord types remain the same!

Phrygian Dominant Family of Chords:

I chord =       G major            (4 note chord = G dominant 7th)
II chord =      Ab major          (4 note chord = Ab major 7th)

iv chord =     C minor            (4 note chord = C minor major 7)

The Modes of the Harmonic Minor are fun like the Major Scale Modes but are created off the scale degrees of the Harmonic Minor Scale. Starting in C Harmonic Minor look at the notes and the scale formula for C Harmonic Minor:

WS, HS, WS, WS, HS, WS+HS, HS ( WS = 2 frets, HS = 1 fret)
Notes are: C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, B, C 

i chord =     C minor            (4 note chord = C minor major 7)
iio chord =   D diminished    (4 note chord = D minor 7th flat 5th)
III+ chord = Eb augmented  (4 note chord = E flat major 7th sharp 5th)
iv chord =    F minor           (4 note chord = F minor 7th)
V chord =    G major           (4 note chord = G dominant 7th)
VI chord =   Ab major          (4 note chord = Ab major 7th)

Recap of Major Scale Modes

Now that the Major Scale Modes are complete do the following:

1. Learn in all keys (C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, F#, G, Ab, A, Bb, B,)

2. Record all the chord progressions and play the modal scale with the modal chords.

3. Start to move to other keys. Example take C Ionian and move to D Ionian. The chords would be the same chord types just in the new key. See here below:

D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D is the D major scale - also called the D Ionian Mode.

The Family of Chords is the same as the D major Family of Chords.
No matter what key you change to the chord types remain the same!

I chord =     D major              (Dmaj7 four note chord)
ii chord =    E minor               (Em7 four note chord)
iii chord =   F# minor             (F#m7 four note chord)
IV chord =   G major              (Gmaj7 four note chord)
V chord =    A major              (A7 four note chord)
vi chord =    B minor              (Bm7 four note chord)
viio chord = C# diminished     (C#m7b5 four note chord)

Now record (or have a friend play) the common Ionian progressions 5 to 10 minutes each and live (or on another track) play the D Ionian scale using quarter then eighth notes. Start at or around 60 BPM.

1. I //// IV //// V //// IV ////

2. I //// vi //// IV //// V /////

3. I //// IV //// I //// V ///

4. I //// IV //// viio //// iii //// vi //// ii //// V //// ////

Locrian often the least used of the Major Scale modes is one of my favorites!

Locrian Family of Chords:

io chord =  B diminished
II chord =  C major
iii chord =  D minor
iv chord =  E minor
V chord =  F major
VI chord = G major
vii chord = A minor

Now record (or have a friend play) these common Locrian progressions 5 to 10 minutes each and live (or on another track) play the B Locrian scale using quarter then eighth notes.
